China is well known for it's Great Wall of China and Terracotta Army but most people are not aware that the Chinese also built pyramids. There are pyramids in the Qin Ling Shan mountains approximately 100Km South West of the Ancient City of Xi'an. They are made of clay which has hardened over the centuries. They are believed to be 4,500 years old or possibly older. Also, many other Chinese pyramids can be found at various sites within an approximate 70 mile radius around Xi'an. It is estimated that China may have a total of more than a 100 pyramids. The pyramid that is believed to be the oldest is approximately 100 feet high and is possibly the tomb of the first Emperor of China, Quing Ling. The tallest pyramid lies in the Qin Lin valley and is known as the Great White pyramid. It is thought to be at least 300m (1000 feet) high. The pyramids, up to the present date, have not been excavated to confirm or deny that some or all of the pyramids were used as tombs for Chinese Emperors, but sometime in the future this may change. There are theories that the positioning of the pyramids are linked to star constellations. Some people believe that they may be linked to extra-terrestrial activity, foremost, a 'Chinese Roswell-style' UFO crash but no firm evidence has been publicly presented to either confirm or deny these claims. A German writer and researcher, Hartwig Hausdorf was given permission in 1994 to travel to some of the restricted areas in China to study and photograph the pyramids, he kept an account of his experiences and has written at least two books about his theories about the pyramids, 'The White Pyramid' and 'Satellites of the Gods'.
